By employing an Australian Apprentice you benefit from well-trained and motivated staff and you may also be eligible for Commonwealth and State Government incentives, including:
State Funding
Workcover Exemption
Remuneration paid to eligible apprentices and trainees is excluded from the calculation of their employers’ levy. This incentive will assist skills creation in South Australia by encouraging employers to take on trainees and apprentices.

Payroll Tax Trainee Wage Rebate Scheme
Wages paid or payable on or after 1 July 2010 to apprentices or trainees that meet the eligibility criteria are exempt.

Subsidised Training
In most instances, the majority of the training costs of the Australian Apprenticeship will be funded by the State Government through a system called User Choice. Some Registered Training Organisations may charge fees for materials and for the provision of training.

Incentives for Employers
Standard, Additional and Special incentives
Employers of Australian Apprentices may be eligible to claim commencement and completion incentive payments of up to $4,000 for employing an Australian Apprentice (subject to meeting the required eligibility criteria).
There is also a range of additional incentives available to employers of an Australian Apprentice including the:

Declared Drought area incentive;

Rural and Regional Skills Shortage incentive;

Mature Aged Worker incentive.
Australian School-based Apprenticeships Incentive
Employers may be eligible for a $750 commencement incentive for employing an Australian Apprentice in an endorsed Australian School-based Apprenticeship at the Certificate II to IV level and $750 for continuing to employ the young person after the student has completed Year 12.
Support for Adult Australian ApprenticesThe Support for Adult Australian Apprentices initiative provides financial support to Australian Apprentices ortheir employer where the Australian Apprentice is aged 25 years or over at the commencement of their Australian Apprenticeship, and is completing an Australian Apprenticeship at the Certificate III or IV level in a occupation experiencing a skills shortage.
Disabled Australian Apprentice Wage Support (DAAWS)
A wage subsidy may apply for Australian Apprentices with a disability. Ask your Business SA Consultant for more information.
Incentives for Australian Apprentices
Tools for Your Trade Initiative
The Tools For Your Trade payment was announced in the 2009-2010 Budget. It combines three existing initiatives previously available to Australian Apprentices, the Tools For Your Trade voucher, Apprenticeship Wage Top-Up and the Commonwealth Trade Learning Scholarship. The new payment totals $3800 and will be paid directly to the Australian Apprentice over the life of their training. This initiative is available to Australian Apprentices undertaking a qualification which is listed on the National Skills Needs List.
Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA)
Australian Apprentices may be eligible for assistance if they are homeless, or if they have had to move away from the family home to commence or remain in an Australian Apprenticeship.
LAFHA is paid at the rate of $77.17 per week for the first 12 months of eligibility and $38.59 per week for the second 12 months of eligibility from 1 July 2003.
