Possible Change to Public Holidays

Following a recent review into how to better handle ‘Mad March’ in South Australia, the State Government is calling for input from the public.

The review specifically deals with the best way to organise the Adelaide Cup and the Queen’s Birthday public holidays to better manage major events that are held in March.

The suggestions from the report include:

  • moving the Adelaide Cup back to the second Monday in May from 2014 (it is currently held on the second Monday in March);
  • keeping a public holiday on the second Monday in March and renaming it ‘Festival Day’; and
  • moving the Queen’s Birthday public holiday from June to the second Monday in May to coincide with the Adelaide Cup.

Feedback can be provided to Business SA’s Policy department until Thursday 11 October. Email policy@business-sa.com to have your say.
