Connect with schools to promote your business or recruit your workers. Students now stay at school longer so you need to start the recruitment process earlier.
There are many ways that you can build partnerships with local schools to promote your business or your industry or recruit your future workers. Here are just some ideas.
- Employ a student as a part-time paid apprentice or trainee. Students can commence their apprenticeships / traineeships whilst at school and complete with you once they have left school.
- Provide part time work opportunities, work experience or structured workplace learning, which is when the students are learning skills related to your industry but need to learn how they apply in your workplace
- Host tours, visits and excursions to your business to educate students and teachers about what you do and what career options are available
- Provide speakers, demonstrations, display exhibits at school career nights expos. Students especially like to hear from your younger workers as to how they got started, the skills they need to have and what they are doing now. It is also a good opportunity to let them know what you are looking for when recruiting employees. It is also a great opportunity to influence parents.
- Become involved in student mentoring – work with students for specific activities or projects such as the Concept 2 Creation project in the north of Adelaide.
- Participate in a teacher placement program.
- Become involved in mock interviews. It is an opportunity for the student to gain knowledge about your business and act as a potential recruitment opportunity for you.
Business SA can simplify the process for you and put you in contact with people who can help you in your local area.
