Business SA - Personal Information Statement
Business SA may collect personal information for the purposes of providing membership, products or services or information about those products or services, to you. Such products and services may include, but are not limited to, membership of Business SA, information about Business SA events, the conduct of promotions or competitions, the operation of mailing lists for promotional purposes, the operation of the Business SA website and for the provision of other services requested by you or your business.
It is important the Business SA collects the personal information it requires. If it is unable to do so, Business SA may be required to limit the goods or services it provides to you.
Business SA will not disclose your personal information other than in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

1. Privacy Act
The South Australian Employers Chamber of Commerce Inc (Business SA) is subject to the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Act).
This Policy is intended to provide an overview of our policies for the handling of your personal information by Business SA. For the purposes of the Act and the Policy, your personal information is any information about you from which your identity may be reasonably ascertained. Examples of the kinds of personal information Business SA may hold are set out in section 5.1.

2. How Business SA Collects, Holds, Uses and Discloses Personal Information
2.1 Collection
Business SA limits the personal information it collects to information that is necessary for the provision or promotion of Business SA membership, products and services to you. Business SA nearly always collects personal information directly from you, including from membership application forms, entry into promotions, surveys, mailing lists, websites and registration forms, as well as through communication with you.
Business SA will attempt to make you aware of the purposes for the collection of your personal information and any consequences for you if you fail to provide any information that is requested. Where personal information is not provided, Business SA may not be able to provide you with products or services.
2.2 Storage
Business SA handles personal information carefully. Storage of your personal information may be undertaken by a specialist third party at an off-site location (for example, specifically engaged by Business SA for that purpose), or it may be stored by Business SA in a secure location. Business SA will take reasonable measures to ensure that your personal information is stored securely, and Business SA has procedures designed to ensure that your personal information is not misplaced or misused, and that unauthorised access to, modification of, or disclosure of your personal information does not occur.
Security measures that may be employed from time to time may include:
- password protection of information stored in computer records;
- restricted access to certain information, to ensure that only authorised individuals are able to view this information, and only for authorised purposes;
- encryption of personal information and Business SA databases;
- network and computer security;
- physical document security, including locked offices, filing cabinets and archives; and
- periodic secure destruction of the information on the database ensure that your personal information will not be stored indefinitely.
Business SA reserves the right to refuse to provide you with further information about security procedures if doing so may compromise those procedures.
2.3 Use and Disclosure
Business SA will generally only use or disclose your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, with your consent and/or for related purposes that Business SA considers are within your reasonable expectations. Other than for the purpose of storage (as outlined in paragraph 2.2 of the Policy) Business SA does not otherwise disclose your information to third party organisations for any purpose, including marketing or promotional purposes without your consent.
Business SA will seek your consent prior to using or disclosing your personal information for any other purpose (unless the use or disclosure is required or authorised by law).
3. Access to Personal Information
Please contact the Business SA Privacy Officer if you wish to obtain access to any personal information. Business SA will require that you provide sufficient identification before allowing you to access any personal information. If Business SA is required or authorised by law to do so, it may refuse to provide you with access to this information.
Business SA may charge a reasonable fee for you to access your personal information. If a fee is payable, you will be advised of the amount of that fee once your request for access has been assessed, and payment prior to providing access to your personal information may be required. Business SA will not charge a fee for you to lodge a request for access or for that request to be assessed.
Business SA may provide you with access to your personal information in any of a number of ways, including by providing a hard copy of the information, or by allowing you to inspect relevant records. If you satisfy Business SA that any personal information held about you is incomplete or inaccurate Business SA will amend its records accordingly. You should always let Business SA know if your personal information changes.
Generally, Business SA does not transfer personal information outside of Australia. Business SA may do so, however, if you have given your permission for this to occur or if Business SA is otherwise legally entitled or required to do so.
5. Online Privacy
This section of the Privacy Policy deals specifically with the "online services" provided by Business SA, and includes any services which are provided via the Internet. This may include email, the Business SA website located at www.business-sa.com and any other website that may be operated by Business SA from time to time.
5.1 Automatic Server Logs
The web server used by Business SA automatically collects various items of information when you access the website, including:
- your IP (Internet Protocol) address;
- information about the operating system and Internet browser software you are currently using; and
- the data that you download from the websites(s) and when you download it.
Although, in some circumstances, it may be possible to identify you from this information, Business SA does not attempt to do so (unless authorised or required to do so by law), and Business SA only uses this information for statistical analysis, system administration, and similar purposes.
The Business SA website may use cookies to make it easier for you to access the website and use some advanced features of the website.
5.3 Email and Feedback Forms
Business SA may collect personal information from you (such as your name, email address, and any other personal information you provide) if you send Business SA an email or if you submit information to Business SA using any function on its website, such as a feedback form, a messenger service or an online forum. Business SA will use this personal information to contact you to respond to your message, and for other related purposes.
5.4 Security
Once Business SA receives personal information, it will take reasonable steps to store it in accordance with the terms of this Policy so that unauthorised access, modification, disclosure, misuse and loss is limited or prevented.
5.5 Other Online Services
If any of Business SA's online services (including any email messages we send to you) provide links to other online services that are not operated by Business SA, it is not responsible for the content of those other services and Business SA does not endorse the privacy practices of the organisations that operate those other services.
6. Credit checks
If you are seeking to become a member of Business SA, for the purpose of processing and assessing your application, Business SA may need to disclose certain information to a credit reporting agency in order to enable them to conduct a credit check. This information may include personal identifying details such as your name, date of birth, current and previous addresses, driver's licence number and employer. Business SA will always obtain your consent prior to conducting a credit check, and will only do so where credit is being extended to you.
