Overview:

This nationally recognised qualification reflects job roles of contract bookkeepers and employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. Key skills covered include completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other financial statements, developing bookkeeping management systems, establishing and maintaining accounting system and general administration.

Please note – persons providing a BAS service must be registered as by the Tax practitioners Board and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the educational requirements for registration.

Recommended for: 

This qualification is designed for persons providing a BAS service; are working for an organisation and complete Business Activity Statements on behalf of their employer or people aspiring to work as a Registered BAS agent in the future must be registered by the Tax Practitioner's Board.

To achieve this certificate, 13 units of competency must be achieved (9 core and 4 electives):

Core units

  • FNSINC401A - Apply principles of professional practice to work in the financial services industry
  • BSBFIA401A - Prepare financial reports
  • FNSBKG401A - Develop and implement policies and procedures relevant to bookkeeping activities
  • FNSBKG402A - Establish and maintain a cash accounting system
  • FNSBKG404A - Carry out business activity statement and instalment activity statement tasks
  • FNSBKG405A - Establish and maintain a payroll system
  • BSBITU306A - Design and produce business documents
  • BSBOHS303B - Contribute to OHS hazard identification and risk assessment
  • FNSBK6403A - Establish and maintain an accrual accounting system.


Elective units

  • BSBSMB405A - Monitor and manage small business operations
  • BSBCUS301A - Deliver and monitor a service to customers
  • BSBITU402A - Develop and use complex spreadsheets
  • BSBWOR501A - Manage personal work priorities and professional development.


Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this qualification, participants will be able to:  

  • Establish and maintain manual and computerised accounting systems
  • Complete Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office financial statements
  • Develop bookkeeping management systems for organisations
  • Conduct general administration.


Government Funding

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
