Peter Vaughan
After obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Melbourne University Peter spent the next 7 years as a secondary school teacher, followed by several years as a full-time teacher representative culminating in the Presidency of the Victorian Secondary Teachers’ Association.
Several years in senior industrial relations roles followed and during the past 15 years, his entrepreneurial and change-management skills saw him appointed to such diverse roles as the Australian Federation of Construction Contractors, Chair of the Safer Chemical Storage Task Force (to oversee the development of a new chemical port facility near Geelong) and National Marketing Manager of Smorgon ARC.
Prior to joining Business SA he was employed as General Manager Marketing and Sales for Optima Energy, a new electricity generation corporation established in January 1997 in preparation for South Australia’s entry into the National Electricity Market.
Peter is currently in his twelfth year as the Chief Executive Officer of Business SA, where he has successfully steered the former Chamber of Commerce through a period of major change to its present enviable position as the leading business organisation in South Australia.
Peter is a board member of the Cancer Council and WorkCover Corporation, a member of the State Council, CEDA and a Member of the South Australian Training & Skills Commission.
Most recently Peter was appointed as Chair of the JamFactory Board.
Peter has enjoyed a life-long interest in collecting wine and modern art and is a supporter of the Collingwood Football Club.
