A Bill is effectively a law waiting to be made and is essentially a draft of the Act. It must pass through both houses (House of Assembly and Legislative Council) of Parliament in order to take effect. Once it has passed Parliament, a Bill will then be assented by the Governor and become an Act, or law.

Acts contain the legislative requirements that must be legally abided by. Once the Work Health and Safety Bill 2011 becomes an act, it will replace the existing Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1986. All South Australian businesses must comply with the current legislation until the new laws take effect.

To access a copy of the State Work Health and Safety Bill 2011, as it was restored to the Legislative Council (Upper House) on 15 February 2012, follow this link.

Once the Bill has become law, Business SA will have available for purchase a loose leaf updateable version as part of its Legislative Service.
