Educate teachers to help students understand how maths or science is applied at work. This is an ideal opportunity to make a difference by working with a maths or science teacher on a specific project for your business.

The Premier’s Industry Initiative for Mathematics and Science Teachers enables teachers to spend 10 days working with you on a negotiated maths or science related project. The teacher will gain a ‘hands on’ understanding of the application of maths or science in a real work environment.  They can take that learning back to the classroom to engage students in meaningful maths or science and encourage and inspire students to undertake further studies in these disciplines, ensuring a skilled workforce for the future.

They may work with you to create a product, solve a problem, do some research or address a concern for your business. This is a win/win situation- teachers learn, you have the resources to complete a project you have always been meaning to do.

There is no cost to your business and projects can be undertaken anytime between mid April and 1 October 2010.

For more information or to register your interest, contact Business SA on 8300 0045. Our adviser would be happy to come to your workplace to discuss possible project ideas.

OH&S policies

Do you have OH&S policies and procedures in your workplace?

Having a comprehensive set of OH&S policies and procedures that are tailored for the specific needs of your business will assist in providing a compliant and safe working environment.

The OH&S Policies and Procedures Package provides your business with the tools to establish and implement documented policies and procedures on common workplace safety issues which outline the commitment and intent of your organisation, legislative rights and responsibilities of you and your employees, and the stipulated consequences for breaches of particular policies within the workplace. Drop in unemployment figures

The Australian Bureau of Statistics Labour Force figures show the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for South Australia in January 2010 decreased 0.8 percentage points from the previous month’s figure to 4.4 per cent.

This compared to the national unemployment rate which decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.3 per cent.

Business SA Chief Executive Officer, Peter Vaughan, said the dramatic fall in unemployment was good news for the local economy.

“We certainly welcome this dramatic fall in unemployment,” Mr Vaughan said.

“South Australia currently has the lowest unemployment rate in the country and we hope this trend continues.”
