The green advantage

As confidence begins to gather momentum, more businesses are recognising the benefits of Business SA's green accreditation scheme.

This month recognises the achievements of PMP Print / Griffin Press Pty Ltd – the first organisation to have progressed through our scheme to successfully achieve both gold level accreditation, and certification to the international standard for environmental best practice (ISO14001:2004):

PMP Print / Griffin Press Pty Ltd were one of the fore runners to the scheme – achieving certification back in March 2009 to the international standard for environmental best practice (ISO14001:2004) through assistance from Business SA’s environmental specialists.

Keith Fulton of Griffin Press provided an insight into why the organisation decided to obtain accreditation, and how their organisation is faring one year on.

“Griffin Press has always had a commitment to preserving the environment and also in ensuring compliance with relevant state and federal legislation," Keith said.

"Becoming certified to ISO14001:2004 ensured we achieved both of these goals using a strategic and internationally standardised framework.

"It was also imperative to ensure that any new environmental documentation / processes would be integrated within our existing Health and Safety (OHS&W) and Quality Assurance (QA) Systems.

"Through assistance from Business SA our Environmental Management System (EMS) is now fully integrated within our QA and OHS&W systems providing a time saving, easily manageable and fully integrated system.

"The successful implementation and easy management off our EMS at Griffin Press has prompted our parent organisation (PMP Limited) to roll this format out to our 16 national manufacturing sites within Australia and NZ.

"This will ensure we achieve our environmental goals on a national basis, whilst streamlining our existing management systems."
