The EMAC Systembuilt Group was recently awarded certification for their environment management systems to the silver level of Business SA’s Green Accreditation Program.
This was achieved through assistance from Business SA’s Senior Environmental & Sustainability Consultant, Brett Miller.
Shaun Henry, General Manager, Operations at EMAC Systembuilt Group provided an insight into why their company decided to become ‘silver’ certified, and how this was achieved so successfully.
“Having recently tendered for major projects to provide housing and mining camps to remote areas, an integrated Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management Plan would allow us to develop a single system that incorporates our key drivers and beliefs,” Shaun said.
“This would allow us to not only provide a safe and effective workplace for our employees and subcontractors, but to also improve efficiency through reduced down time and a consolidation of systems.
“By incorporating our HSE Management Plans with our Quality Management System, we would be on the way to achieving our long term expansion goals, whilst also providing a safer workplace.
“With recent upgrades and an industry push to Energy Efficient Housing, we needed to work towards a model that would not only allow the final product to be energy efficient, but to also have our construction processes, labour content and overall environment and mindset, also working towards a more efficient model.
“Through the addition of Business SA’s industry recognised and respected membership and accreditation to our brand, we have been able to move into market places that were previously out of reach.
“The EMAC Systembuilt Group are a proudly South Australian company and with the expert advice of Business SA, we have been able to expand with key sustainable national contracts.
“We now have diverse revenue streams as a result of our expansion and tender successes, we have a sustainable business model that will now allow for future growth without the need for additional and unexpected changes plus we have achieved key Business SA accreditations that add strength to our brand.
“Our HSE Management Plan was developed with and by our staff, and our now expanded workforce have taken ownership of our HSE model and are each directly responsible for key drivers and result areas.
“By achieving the accreditations that are internationally recognised, we have recently tendered for work within the ever expanding mining industry, and have successfully won work with a large international energy company.”
