Reducing red tape
Campaign success – Estimated saving to business of more than $170 million per year.
Red tape costs your business money and time. We put your concerns to the Government regarding tenders, payroll tax and WorkCover in our submission Reducing Red Tape and the Cost of Compliance which was published in 2007.
Reducing taxes for your business
Campaign success – Estimated saving to business of more than $136 million per year in payroll tax.
In 2007, we made a detailed submission to the State Budget 2007. Some of the recommendations in the document included:
- Reducing payroll tax rate of 4.5% and increasing the tax-free threshold level to $800,000
- Increasing the minimum land tax value to $250,000
- Maintaining the value of the land tax threshold in line with the property-aligned index.
Reforming the public sector
When compared with other States and Territories, South Australia has a high number of public servants per capita. South Australia’s competitive advantage is overshadowed by the relatively high level of taxation used to sustain public sector growth. This means that a large proportion of the tax payers’ money is being spent on the public sector rather than infrastructure and tax reform, which are crucial for a strong business sector.
Reforming workers compensation
Workers compensation is a crucial part of your business. However, an inefficient system harms both you and your employees. For many years, South Australia’s workers compensation scheme has been the worst performing of all the states, based on assets to liabilities ratio (unfunded liability) and return to work outcomes. Yet the scheme was the most expensive for businesses in the nation.
