Adelaide Oval development to create a new lease of life
19 April 2011
The State’s leading business membership organisation, Business SA, has declared the proposed Adelaide Oval re-development as a critical investment for the future of the South Australian economy.
Business SA Chief Executive Officer, Peter Vaughan, said that the business case for the development was compelling.
“The proposed Adelaide Oval re-development will add a much needed new lease of life to Adelaide’s CBD and the flow on effects will be felt throughout the State,” Mr Vaughan said.
“We have looked closely at the proposed plans, the costings and the concerns that have been raised, and the benefits of the project going ahead are substantial for the business and wider community.
“This is about utilising the wonderful attractions of our city and creating a riverbank precinct and world-class sporting facility that will be the envy of the rest of the country.
“Adelaide Oval has served us well over the years, however we cannot keep living in the past - we now have a serious opportunity to turn this venue and the surrounding location into something special.
“The economic activity that will be created will flow into the creation of new projects throughout the city and the State, which will attract investment and signal South Australia as a serious place to do business.
“If this project does not proceed, the damage it will do to South Australia in terms of lost opportunities with infrastructure, job creation, tourism, and not to mention our reputation, will be detrimental.
“We have an ageing population and our young people are leaving the State to live in vibrant and progressive cities. Opposing this development will be pulling up stumps on a once in a generation opportunity.”
