National Rail Safety Regulator Appointed

The Federal and South Australian Government have jointly appointed Australia’s first National Rail Safety Regulator, to be based in Adelaide.

Rob Andrews, a former member of the UK Rail Safety and Standards Board and the UK Health and Safety Executive has been given the position.

This announcement follows the recent passage of the Rail Safety National Law through South Australian Parliament.

It is expected that other States and Territories will pass similar legislation over the next few months.

The new laws are slated to take effect from 1 January 2013.
