PM Hosts Economic Forum
The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, held an economic forum in Brisbane to discuss country’s economy, with a particular focus on the impact on exporters and the manufacturing industry.
The forum brought together 130 business leaders, community members, unions and Government representatives.
There will also be discussions about how to capitalise on the growing Asian economies.
Key stakeholders put forward issues they wanted addressed before the forum began. These included overhauling the industrial relations system, with unions calling for more co-investment strategies to help struggling industries. Co-investment payments are generally a government-industry co-investment and essentially make the government a key stakeholder in the industry to offer additional support.
