Report Calls for Changes to Laws to Stop Age Discrimination

The Age Discrimination Commissioner, Susan Ryan, has put together a report calling for changes to Australian laws to stop age discrimination in the workforce.

The report lists age limits on workers compensation, Superannuation Guarantee, income protection insurance and the licensing requirements for professional drivers as major hurdles to workforce participation for older workers.

The report recommends changes to laws and policies, both in the public service and private sector, to further the cause of older workers.

The report also says that since the implementation of the Age Discrimination Act 2004, most of the complaints received by the Australian Human Rights Commission relate to employment, making up 69.2 per cent of all complaints.

The report can be found on the Australian Human Rights Commission website at: http://www.hreoc.gov.au/.
