Safe Rates Tribunal now operating
The new national Safe Rates Tribunal started operating from 1 July 2012, with four Fair Work Australia (FWA) members being appointed a position on the Tribunal.
The eight-person Tribunal is also made up of Union and Industry members.
The Federal Government passed legislation for the road transport industry in an attempt to create a safer working environment in the sector.
This legislation created the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal who can make what is known as Road Safety Remuneration Orders and the legislation may also have a significant impact on the terms and conditions offered to employees in the industry.
The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) will monitor compliance with the new safety laws for the road transport industry.
Relevant award subscribers have been notified in detail of the changes and subscribers to the Employers’ Handbook have been sent comprehensive information on the Tribunal and the associated legislation.
