Western Australia Commits to Introducing WHS Legislation
The Western Australian Government has stated in their 2012-2013 budget that they will introduce Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation before the end of this year.
Western Australia is conducting their own evaluation of the impacts the harmonisation, in particular the Regulations and first stage Codes of Practice, will have on workers and businesses in their State, as well as on the Western Australian Government and its economy.
The legislation is expected to be introduced to their Parliament this year sometime.
The Western Australian Government has previously called on the Federal Government to delay the implementation of the harmonised laws from the original 1 January 2012 start date. They also stated their concerns regarding the aspects of the model legislation relating to penalties, union entry and the reverse onus of proof in discrimination matters.
