Meet Adelaide’s innovative-internet players offering consumers an alternative to the National Broadband Network (NBN). Uniti Wireless
, located in Currie Street, offers super-fast broadband to South Australian and Victorian businesses and residents, with plans for national expansion this year.
The Adelaide-based internet service provider started its operations in 2014 when co-founders Sasha Baranikov and Che Metcalfe saw an opportunity to disrupt the telecommunications industry with an NBN alternative.
Fast forward four years and the company now employs more than 50 people across software, engineering, service provisioning, customer service, sales, marketing and finance, which will soon increase to more than 60 over the next few months.
Fixed-wireless technology has been growing increasingly popular as an alternative to the NBN and other fixed broadband services, as many residents and businesses remain without fast and reliable broadband to live and work to their full potential.
While Uniti Wireless is expanding nationally, the entrepreneurs plan to remain here in South Australia.
“It’s not as expensive to run a business here and because the eye of the eastern states is not on South Australia, in some respects you can be more experimental and try things out,” says Sasha.
