Forget Married at First Sight, it was Hired at First Sight when Business SA and Apprenticeship Support Australia
hosted our first ever Jobs Pathway event earlier this year. It was a case of speed dating for the jobs market – where potential employers were able to meet and greet unemployed people keen to pick up a job.
Throughout the morning, close to 40 job-seekers, who had been looking for work for more than six months, attended sessions with employers at Business SA. The job-matching event allowed employers with positions to fill to speak to groups of people interested in working in their field, with a view to hiring in the short-term.
A group of 16 employers from 13 organisations attended, along with 16 guests from State Government departments and Job Service Providers. That meant 70 people filled our Atrium and meetings rooms, keen to meet, great, employ and work.
As a direct result of the event, we now have at least 12 candidates in PATH internship arrangements and at least four in employment – which makes 16 successful outcomes so far. Our event partners have also reported that it generated a lot of general activity and interest, with a high number of indirect outcomes as well.
Channel 9 also gave the event considerable publicity. To watch how the event impacted on the candidates who attended and the employers involved, click here
