South Australian creative entrepreneurs planning to present work in the 2023 Adelaide Fringe can now apply for financial assistance through the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund. the South Australian Business Chamber Chief Executive Andrew Kay is proud to continue to support the Adelaide Fringe for the second year.
“These creative entrepreneurs put it all on the line for their love of performance. They encapsulate the spirit of risk taking and having a go that we support and encourage in business. Not only is the Fringe an annual epicentre of entertainment, it is also the catalyst for business activity across the tourism, retail and hospitality sectors and long may that continue.”
The Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund raises funds and redistributes the money to artists, venues and producers participating at Fringe. The Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund exists to support bold ideas, elevate diverse voices and encourage innovation.
First implemented in 2015, the Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund has distributed more than 300 grants since its inception and is responsible for propelling forward artists, venues and producers such as Kween Kong, Michaela Burger and Casus Circus.
The Artist Fund is fuelled by donations from members of the Adelaide Fringe Donor Circle and other Fringe-driven fundraising throughout the year. Following an election commitment from the Malinauskas Government, the annual grant purse available to artists has increased and going forward, the grants disbursed will come from the State Government funding as well as donations.
Director and CEO of Adelaide Fringe Heather Croall said, “The grants program is hugely important to Adelaide Fringe and makes a big difference for artists and to our festival program. Each year we select grant recipients whose works will contribute to the diversity, vibrancy and wow factor of Adelaide Fringe.”
“Receiving an Artist Fund grant can help ease the financial pressure involved with developing, producing and selling a show at Adelaide Fringe; we see this reduction in pressure encourages artists to be bold and take risks and put on great shows,” said Ms Croall.
Adelaide Fringe has set a goal of issuing a minimum of 100 grants from the Artist Fund for 2023.
The Hon Andrea Michaels MP, Minister for Arts said “The Malinauskas Government is pleased to provide increased funding to the Adelaide Fringe Festival to expand the support offered to South Australians performing at the Fringe. I look forward to seeing the work developed by our talented local artists and producers thanks to these grants at next year’s Fringe.”
Criteria for the grants is available on the Adelaide Fringe website and the deadline is 17 August 2022.
The 2023 Adelaide Fringe will run from 17 February to 19 March 2023.
