Premier clears the road for business confidence to return

On behalf of members and the broader business community, the South Australian Business Chamber Chief Executive Martin Haese applauds today’s announcement from Premier Malinauskas to end the emergency management declaration here in South Australia, effective immediately.

Today’s announcement means that there are now no provisions for wholesale lockdowns, broad mask mandates, or any new restrictions to business/venue capacities.

Despite rising inflation and interest rates, South Australian businesses can feel more confident with today’s announcement.

The ability to control their operations without fearing a state-imposed rule would shut them down without notice will lead to greater certainty.

This is excellent news for the business community who are looking for solid leadership out of the global health pandemic that has crippled them for two years now.

When he took over the reins, one of the Premier’s first promises was to remove the layers of decision-making around the management of COVID-19 so that there was clear accountability back to the elected officials. We thank Premier Malinauskas for sticking to his word and for delivering this promise sooner than expected.

The South Australian Business Chamber has supported all necessary public health actions to protect South Australians over the last two years, however, we have always advocated that these be in place for no longer than absolutely necessary.

We sincerely thank the tireless efforts of Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier across the 793 days that South Australia was operating under the emergency management declaration.”
