Eric has a broad experience in many fields, including his own successful retail business and General Manager of a large corporate organisation, with sales, marketing and business management experience in sports administration, airlines, health insurance and charities. He served in the Army in Vietnam (1969) and is a member of the RSL and returned Servicemen League.

Eric continues to be on several boards after retirement from full time working life and is a grandfather of five. He resides in Adelaide and spends many months each year at his beach house at Louth Bay, Eyre Peninsula.
