Glen Ewin Hill Climb Revival

Glen Ewin Estate, Adelaide Hills Cellar Door Restaurant and event venue are taking a step back into South Australian Motor Racing history with their Hill Climb Revival event.

On Sunday 29 January 2023, car enthusiasts are encouraged to visit Glen Ewin Estate and view some of the original class-winning cars from the 1930s and 1950s hill climbs being displayed in front of their old homestead.

According to Glen Ewin’s Kevin Lawrence, Business Development Manager, shortly after World War two, the then owners and a group of enthusiasts from Sports Car Drivers SA established the original hill climb event, requiring them to drive up the steep driveway at the estate and out onto Lower Hermitage Road.

We understand that the original track, which is still intact today was used from 1948 to 1951 prior to an act of Parliament banning motor competition on public roads.

The race was commonly known as the Jam Factory’ hill climb, because of the range of produce made at the estate.

Glen Ewin pays tribute to another piece of its heritage with the reinvigoration of this historic event.

The venue invites classic vehicle owners to display their prized possessions on the day and hopes everyone can attend and enjoy the family-friendly event, which will include a re-enactment of the famous race departure.

Pre-orders for picnics, lunches and bookings for the day are now open.

Date: Sunday 29th January 2023 from 11am to 3pm
