In a recent video interview, Emilia Pirone, General Manager of health food manufacturer and wholesaler Goodies and Grains discussed her pathway to being South Australia’s Young Entrepreneur of the year and how her business has changed following the completion of the SAYES program in 2022.

Emilia was awarded the title at the SAYES graduation ceremony last October and attributes innovation and upgrading many manual processes to her learnings from the program.

Goodies and Grains started from humble beginnings in the nineties with a small business run out of the Central Markets.

The artisan business has a core product range of breakfast cereals, including raw and baked mueslis and granola, and has expanded to include wellness products, honey, and 100% Australian peanut butter in its range.

Since acquiring the business, Emilia’s fresh methods have seen an expansion of products, modernisation of its brand and marketing, stocking of items in key supermarkets both locally and interstate, and development of an online store, which she hopes to scale over the next year.

Australia’s taste for healthy and sustainable foods has caused the industry to skyrocket in recent years. A 2019 report by the CSIRO estimated the sector to be worth $25b and 10% of the value of Australia’s food and agribusiness by the end of the decade.

With a mission to provide quality food and knowledge to people who care and a young entrepreneurial mastermind at the reigns, we have no doubt that Goodies and Grains will continue to expand and play an important role in the future of health food manufacturing in South Australia.

The South Australian Business Chamber is now seeking regional participants for the SAYES program, inviting entrepreneurs of any age to apply for a 12-month course designed to skyrocket new or existing businesses, much like Goodies and Grains.
