Live stream SA’s Biggest Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast

When your event sells out without even announcing the speakers, then you know that you have hit the mark. This is what has happened with the 2022 South Australia’s Biggest Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast on Thursday 27 October. This year, there will be more than 750 people sitting down across South Australia to have breakfast together to share stories and take ACTION.

By joining the live feed, you will be part of the launch of South Australia’s Healthy Workplace Service by the Hon Chris Picton, Minister for Health and Wellbeing. In continuing the ACTION theme, you will hear the latest from research into mental health including the effectiveness of workplace resilience programs and mental health tools on your mobile phone. Pairing with this research is a practical example where the South Australian Business Chamber members Stephen Pisani and Rebecca Weatherill worked together to build a positive workplace culture at the Pisani Group.

If you have not yet heard the term psychosocial hazard’ before as a business operator, tune in to hear from our state’s WHS Regulator, Martyn Campbell, and ReturnToWork SA’s Mardi Webber as they outline a new Code of Practice.

A psychosocial hazard is anything that could cause psychological harm (eg harm someone’s mental health). Common psychosocial hazards at work include: 

• job demands

• low job control

• poor support 

• lack of role clarity

• poor organisational change management

• inadequate reward and recognition

• poor organisational justice

• traumatic events or material

• remote or isolated work 

• poor physical environment 

• violence and aggression 

• bullying

• harassment, including sexual harassment, and

• conflict or poor workplace relationships and interactions

SafeWork Australia advises that A person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must eliminate psychosocial risks, or if that is not reasonably practicable, minimise them so far as is reasonably practicable. Under the model WHS laws, a PCBU, such as an employer, must manage psychosocial risks (eg risks to mental health) at work.

There are a wide range of options for an employer to manage these risks for their employees, and it starts all the way back at recruitment. Our panel for the day will talk about how being a workplace of choice is critical and how a business can recruit for culture rather than skills. Then get your notepad ready as you will learn how to build and maintain a healthy workplace, and the top three things you need to have in place to ensure the wellbeing of your staff.
