Shining light on arts and hospitality in Adelaide.

Monday, October 31st 2022

Did you know that a 150-year-old building on Light Square is now a hub for the arts, hospitality, and events? Light ADL is a social enterprise that creates opportunities for artists through the support of its hospitality, events, and immersive technologies. Through a significant injection of philanthropic capital, founders Nick and Sophie Dunstone established Light ADL in 2021.

Being a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity, Light ADL is a human enterprise that focuses on maintaining an ethos of well-being for its people and collaborators. All profits from its award-winning restaurant Aurora, multiple bars, events, and immersive technologies are invested back to enable artists to work with Light ADL’s cutting-edge technology and develops new ways of engaging with audiences.

Only in their second year of business, Light ADL already has over 70 employees. The organisation endeavours to uphold a high social responsibility standard and eradicate the toxic culture often found in hospitality venues. Light ADL creates a safe space that provides opportunities, education and mentorship for people looking to work in the arts, tech and hospitality industries.

We want to create a space to support artists,” says co-founder Sophie Dunstone.

To allow them to do new and different things, but also a space where the public can experience new and different things. And we’re invested in creating the right kind of culture… where staff are caring and supportive and allowed to fail and try again.

We’re doing it because we really need things like the arts to make us feel connected, reflect on our society, and have an emotional reaction.”

Light ADL is an audacious endeavour which can be supported by dining at Aurora, hosting an event using world class technologies or simply enjoy a drink in one of our bars.
