Show business, there’s no business like it

We are hoping to sell a million tickets to Fringe shows next year”. That was the ambitious goal Heather Croall, CEO of Adelaide Fringe shared at the Cheers and Connect – Fringe Business Partners event on Tuesday. 

If everyone who usually attends a Fringe event, next year buys just one more ticket than normal, we will hit our goal”.

Ms Croall who announced the program for the 2023 festival this week also celebrated the return of international artists for the first time since before COVID. These inbound acts will contribute to 20 per cent of next year’s calendar, with a further 20 per cent coming from interstate.

The Adelaide Fringe 2023 schedule will feature more than 1200 shows, which is a 14 per cent increase from last year, finally back to pre-covid levels. 

The annual arts festival, the biggest of its kind in the southern hemisphere last year generated a total expenditure of $74.9 million dollars, attracted more than 32 thousand tourists, and brought $50.1 million of new money into South Australia. 

The Adelaide Fringe is a major economic driver for SA, bringing all sectors of industry and government together contributing to a month-long boost for our state. 

Many private sector businesses have partnered with Adelaide Fringe this year, including the South Australian Business Chamber members BankSA, Foodland, InDaily, Maras Group and many more.

The South Australian Business Chamber Chief Andrew Kay said, We are proud to be a Fringe partner alongside so many of our members again in 2023”

More than 5000 artists performed at last year’s festival. They are all sole traders and business owners in their own right”

South Australia can facilitate fantastic income for these business owners at this world-renowned, month-long event which has such a positive economic impact on our state. It makes good sense to support it”.

In the lead-up to Fringe, the South Australian Business Chamber will be running its own campaign encouraging consumers to see one of the 1200 shows being performed across South Australia.

We are hoping while Fringe goers are at it, they will support local hospitality, accommodation, and retail outlets at the same time,” said Mr Kay.

As our campaign slogan says… there really is no business, like show business”.

Tickets are now on sale for many of next year’s performances, just in time for Christmas gift purchases.
