The Office of the Equal Opportunity Commissioner, an independent statutory body who supports the Equal Opportunity Commissioner has established the ‘WE’RE EQUAL’ campaign.
WE’RE EQUAL promotes businesses and organisations willing to commit to being ‘safe’ environments free from discrimination, bullying or harassment. They make this commitment to their customers, their workers, and their contractors and suppliers.
Businesses and organisations signing up to the WE’RE EQUAL Statement of Commitment actively ensure that every person entering their premises is treated equally, respectfully and with dignity regardless of their age, ability, gender diversity, sexuality, relationship and reproductive status, race, religion, and culture.
Additionally, through dedicated WE’RE EQUAL webpages, the Office of the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity (OCEO) assists businesses and organisations to create and sustain discrimination-free environments. This includes information, access to training providers, and downloadable resources for business owners and managers, for their workers, and for their customers. These resources will be added to over time.
Objectives of WE’RE EQUAL:
• To create community-led demand for businesses and organisations committed to providing discrimination-free environments.
• To educate business owners, their staff, and suppliers on how to provide respectful and inclusive customer service.
• To inform customers of participating businesses and organisations about the purpose and meaning of being a WE’RE EQUAL member.
• To inform stakeholders and their consumers about the purpose and meaning of WE’RE EQUAL, and where they can find participating venues.
• To inform the broader community of the meaning and purpose of WE’RE EQUAL, and to encourage their support for members through recognition of the WE’RE EQUAL graphic identity.
