Course outline
Managers and supervisors within any organisation have a responsibility to understand and implement Work Health and Safety legislation and requirements. This ensures staff are working within a safe work environment.
Managers and supervisors are role models for staff. By demonstrating safety standards and carrying out duties with a complete understanding of legal requirements, managers and supervisors help create a safety culture in their workplace.
The South Australian Business Chamber has designed this course to ensure middle managers, supervisors and team leaders are aware of their responsibilities for maintaining workplace safety systems.
As part of the course, legal requirements under Work Health and Safety legislation are defined, along with the roles and responsibilities of an employer.
This course introduces hazard and risk management, control methods, WHS management systems and ensuring reporting is comprehensive and managed effectively.

We approached BusinessSA for whole-of-workforce WHS training at both employee and manager level. As we are not a high-risk environment, we felt listened to and engaged with in the planning of material to be presented, and confident that our facilitator understood our needs. There was a small amount of adaptation required in consideration of the fact that our workforce is spread among different states, but this was incorporated without issue.
As far as the presentations themselves, the facilitator was engaging and made potentially dry material very relevant to our employees and their everyday situations. Staff feedback was very positive and has resulted in significant post-training engagement. Our reporting systems for risks and hazards have been used much more appropriately and staff understanding of why these are needed is increased.
