With the new financial year is nearly upon us, now is the time to be ensuring environmental credentials are part of your 2010/11 plans.
This month recognises the achievements of one organisation and highlights the benefits that Business SA’s green accreditation scheme can provide.
Jason Skene, Managing Director, Leedall Presentation Systems Pty Ltd provided an insight into why they initiated the ‘Leedall Get Green’ program, and the importance the organisation places on their newly found green credentials:
“Since making the decision to grow our business capabilities, and provide a greater range of services (including audio visual, video conferencing and room control systems) to Education, Government and larger Corporate entities, we recognised a growing requirement from prospective clients for Leedall to demonstrate a compliant commitment to an Environment Management Plan,” Jason said.
Initiating the ‘Leedall Get Green’ program was the first step in doing this, and has provided the organisation with:
1- Demonstrated internal commitment to reducing its environmental footprint;
2- A responsibility to meaningfully recycle old or surplice electronic equipment; and
3- A value added service to clients, particularly in the education sector that supports their Green programs.
The second step was obtaining an industry recognised green accreditation.
“As a member of Business SA (BSA) it was then an obvious choice for Leedall to select the BSA accreditation scheme,” Jason said.
“The process was extremely simple and efficient, the advice and investment was appropriate to the size of our business, and most importantly we now have a documented Environmental Management Plan manual that is aligned with international standards (ISO14001:2004).”
Jason added that the recent accreditation will deliver benefits that include:
1- Increase the profile of Leedall’s commitment to the environment with existing customers
2- Enable Leedall to respond to business opportunities and tenders from which it had previously been excluded
3- Increase internal environmental awareness by documenting minimum benchmarks and guidelines
4- Demonstrate a conscious decision by the business to align with Australian Standards
5- The satisfaction of knowing they are genuinely thinking and acting in the best interests of the environment.
Ultimately, his view is: “Every little bit helps everyone”.
