The Migration for Business Growth program's Gateway to Asia Exporters Expo in mid April at Enterprise House.
Opening the gateway to Asia
Business SA’s Gateway to Asia Exporters Expo helps South Australian companies to enter and expand their presence in this important marketplace.
Although exporters are suffering with the strong Australian dollar and rising interest rates, China remains a beacon of hope with year on year growth in Australia’s merchandise trade with China an encouraging 18.1%, 2009-10 (DFAT Fact sheet). Resources remain the key sector, but agricultural goods remain strong in canola, live animals, fish, edible products, wine and meat.
The Gateway to Asia Expo is ideal for companies who are establishing, or thinking of entering, the Asian market and need distribution or investment partners.
Exporters will have the opportunity to display and sample their products or services to over 100 prospective export partners. Many of them will be business migrants from China and Korea who are actively seeking products to export back to their home country.
The Expo will link in with an inbound mission of business people from China who are exploring the opportunities available in South Australia.
Business SA Chief Executive Officer, Peter Vaughan said the expo is a response to issues that many member companies, particularly small to medium sized ones, are dealing with.
“Many businesses want to grow their Asian export market but don’t have the time or resources to travel overseas themselves,” Mr Vaughan said.
“There are concerns about the export process and the threat of not receiving payment for goods sent into unknown and complicated marketplaces.
“This is compounded by communication issues if the key contact is a non-English speaker.
“The expo helps to overcome these problems by connecting businesses with export partners who are experienced and reputable business owners, and who already have established business channels in Asia.”
Business SA will provide volunteer interpreters to exhibitors so all opportunities can be fully explored.
The Exporters Expo is a biannual event held by the Migration for Business Growth program and past expos have included honey, wine, seafood, health and beauty products, paint, technology products and service providers.
