Employers Mutual is a recognised industry leader in workers compensation case management services.

As the sole claims agent for WorkCover in South Australia, Employers Mutual provides workers compensation claims management for all registered employers in the state.

Employers Mutual celebrated 100 years of operation in 2010. Since 1910 it has been working together with employers and industry groups to achieve positive outcomes for injured workers and their employers.

Mr Greg Connor, Employers Mutual General Manager, SA, said that with over 1,200 staff nationally, Employers Mutual is able to provide a tailored service to meet the needs of stakeholders.

“We have approximately 250 case managers located in our Adelaide office and we also have offices in the South East, Riverland and Upper Spencer Gulf to support regional employers,” Mr Connor said.

“We are dedicated to working with employers and injured workers to improve return to work outcomes and reduce the cost of workers compensation.

“As a mutual, we do not have shareholders - we have members. We choose to reinvest part of our profits with our employer members through our Member Benefits Program.”

Employers Mutual manages approximately 18,000 claims per year. Each claim is allocated within the business to areas that have been specifically designed to ensure stakeholders receive the right services and best practice case management outcomes.

“Our service approach is based on extensive claims consultation with injured workers and employers and the development of specialised strategies at various stages of a claim to maximise recovery, and ensure the injured worker returns to work in a safe and supportive environment,” Mr Connor added.

“Employers Mutual has a proven case management model. Our core business is case management and with over 250 case managers in South Australia we look to deliver an open, transparent and effective case management service, designed to achieve positive return to work outcomes for injured workers and employers.

Member Benefits Program

 “We reinvest in our member employers through our Member Benefits Program, by providing funding grants to employers and industry groups. These grants are used to support OH&S, injury management and return to work projects.

Employer Education and Training Programs

“We support employers through the provision of a range of education and training courses surrounding workers compensation legislation.

Employer Onsite Visitation Program

“Employers Mutual’s Client Services team assists employers with their specific workers compensation issues through the onsite employer visitation program.

Employer Reporting Tools

“We can provide employers with their Claims Cost Summary reports, at a frequency to suit their needs.”

Mr Connor outlined the company’s experience, its people, service delivery and regional support network as all being important to its ongoing success.

While assisting many businesses in a variety of industries, there were still common questions that arise from throughout the business community.

“Businesses regularly ask questions about their workers compensation rights and responsibilities, claims liability and determinations, claims management strategies and outcomes, and return to work options,” Mr Connor said.

“Employers also ask about the changes to reporting periods for Weekly Payment Reimbursement Requests (WPRR), which is something that Employers Mutual case managers and our Client Services team can assist with.”

There has also been a shift in focus in recent time to ensure safety measures are being addressed in workplaces.

“Employers are concerned with improving their safety within the workplace to reduce the likelihood of incidents and accidents occurring in the first place,” Mr Connor said.

“However in the event of an incident or accident they are looking to understand their obligations under the relevant legislation and for assistance with strategies to support their injured workers to return effectively to the workplace.”
