New 457 Sponsorship Accreditation Initiative
The Government has decided to introduce a sponsor accreditation scheme in November 2011. Accreditation will qualify a sponsor for priority processing of 457 nominations and visa applications and will extend the sponsorship agreement validity to 6 years. Businesses need to meet a range of requirements to qualify for the accreditation, for example they must have had a minimum turnover of $4 million per year for the last three years and they must have had at least 30 Subclass 457 visa holders granted in the previous 12 months.
For more information, please refer to the fact sheet here.
If you have any questions in relation to this initiative or any other skilled migration matters, please contact Mr Jan Schmortte, Industry and Regional Outreach Officer for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship by phone 0434 076 437 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you want global exposure for the projects in your region?
The Major Developments Directory lists South Australia's major developments with a project cost of $5 million or more. The 2010/11 Directory lists a record $80 billion worth of major developments occurring or planned for the State. It is a flagship document used by state and federal agencies to promote investment in South Australia at a vast array of national and global events and meetings.
An electronic copy of the full 2010/11 directory can be downloaded here.
The 2011/12 edition is currently being compiled and this presents an ideal opportunity for the South Australian industry to promote its achievements, and gain a global audience for its capabilities at no cost. If you have a project you would like to propose, please fill out the attached document and email to Mario Pegoli email@example.com at the Department of Trade and Economic Development.
While all projects suggested for inclusion will be considered, the decision on final content of the Major Developments Directory 2011/12 rests with the Government of South Australia and therefore inclusion within the Directory cannot be guaranteed. To ensure your project is considered for inclusion within the Directory, please return completed forms to Mario Pegoli before 12 September 2011. The 2011/2012 Directory is expected to be launched later in the financial year.

Review of Employer Sponsored Permanent Residence Visa Categories
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has commenced a review of the Employer Sponsored permanent residence visa categories to ensure they remain relevant and responsive to the needs of the Australian labour market.
Contributions of stakeholders and feedback from the Australian public will play an important role in developing recommendations that will be provided to government.
A discussion paper has been released on the DIAC website, which outlines the background of the review and issues that will be considered, and provides information about how to make a submission. Issues under consideration include, for example, pathways from temporary to permanent skilled visas, visa requirements, concessions/flexibilities to support positive economic and social outcomes in regional and low population growth areas, and visa options for semi-skilled workers.
You can find the discussion paper here.
Public consultation will close on Friday 16 September 2011.
If you require further information about the review or any other issue relating to skilled migration visas, please contact Mr Jan Schmortte, DIAC Industry & Regional Outreach Officer in South Australia, by phone 0434 076 437 or email email@example.com.
