Business SA is pleased to bring you its annual General Information Sheet for 2012 and the 2012 Calendar. The General Information Sheet can help you plan for the next year with a list of all the important dates for all States and Territories, including:
- Public holidays and school term dates
- Construction industry closedown dates
- Construction industry public holidays and rostered days off
- Daylight savings changeover dates.
The Calendar collates all of these important dates for South Australia only and displays them on one convenient page. Business SA reminds members that the Taxation Information Sheet 2011-2012 and the Key Lodgement Taxation Dates for 2011-2012 are also available. They contain a range of dates, amounts and other useful data such as:
- Activity Statement, Fringe Benefits Tax, Pay as You Go Withholding dates
- Flood Levy rates
- Payroll Tax thresholds and rates
- Superannuation Guarantee Levy and Contribution Concessional Limits.

Australian Fire and First Aid – The future of fire training is here

EDB urges all South Australians to seize the opportunity of the Olympic Dam expansion
“With the signing of the Olympic Dam Indenture Agreement, South Australia stands at the brink of a “once in a lifetime” opportunity,” said Chair of the Economic Development Board, Raymond J Spencer.
“South Australia has taken the latest step towards an opportunity for economic and social development, the size of which the State has not seen since our founding. It is of world scale, based upon a resource of uniquely large size and a mix of commodities; copper, gold and uranium. Although its status as the world’s largest uranium resource gets most attention, it is the industrial and electronics metal, copper that provides most of the value in this ore body as it has done in our early history.” Read the media release.

Department of Immigration and Citizenship: Decision-ready initiative for the 457 program
As part of Budget 2011–12, the Government has established a new 457 processing centre in Brisbane. The increase in staffing for the 457 program aims to halve processing times for ‘decision-ready’ 457 applications from the June 2011 median of 22 calendar days.
The department is committed to providing the best possible processing times for all our clients. This additional funding will ensure that processing times remain low as the program grows with improving business conditions. DIAC Skills Australia Needs information sessions

25 - 26 February 2012
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship will host Skills Australia Needsinformation sessions in London, United Kingdom on the weekend of 25-26 February 2012.
The sessions will provide an opportuntiy for employers and State and Territory governments with skills shortages to meet with pre-screened skilled workers to discuss potential employment or sponsorship opportunities.
Australian employers and State and Territory governments are invited to register their interest to attend.
These sessions will primarily target skilled workers within health, engineering and select trades occupations (there may be scope to target other occupations if there is particular demand). Skilled workers will be screened to ensure they are highly skilled in the targeted occupations to meet employment and sponsorship opportunities on offer and will have the opportunity to hear directly from the department about skilled visa options. Participating organisations will then have an opportunity to meet and speak with the pre-screened skilled workers to discuss potential employment or sponsorship opportunities.
The information sessions do not attract a participation fee. Due to capacity limitations, organisations who lodge an expression of interest will be selected on a first in, first served basis. Participating organisations will need to cover the cost of airfares, accommodation and any other expenses.

Australian State Migration Seminars
Wednesday 29 February 2012, 3.00 - 9.00pm
The department's Skills Australia Needs information sessions will coincide with the Australian State Migration Seminars,hosted by the State governments of Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia in Manchester on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday 29 February.
Attendance is open to all Australian employers, states and territories.
The North-West of England is the UK’s third most populous region, accounting for 11 per cent of the UK’s eligible working population. Industry strengths in the region include engineering and ICT, with health and trades occupations in high supply also.
The event will consist of two seminars where participants/employers will be given the opportunity to provide a short presentation and meet with attendees individually.
Candidates who register to attend will be carefully screened and selected based on employer and State and Territory skill requirements.
Participation at the event is free of charge for employers. All other associated costs are the responsibility of the participants.
