Welcome to the December issue of xpress.
Business SA recently welcomed the Reserve Bank’s decision to cut interest rates for the second consecutive month.
This was the last chance for the bank to decrease interest rates until February, and had rates been maintained at previous levels it would have kept spending money in people’s pockets.
It has been a very challenging year for the business community and this is the ideal time to encourage consumers to get out and start spending before Christmas.
While it took some time for the banks to pass on the full reduction to businesses and households, the economy can now feel the benefit of this decision at a very important time of year.
Speaking of good news, three local exporters were recognised with awards at the recent Australian Export Awards.
This was an outstanding achievement and highlights the quality of exporters that we have here in South Australia.
Winners of the Business SA Export Awards automatically qualified as finalists for the Australian Export Awards and Business SA is delighted to provide this platform for South Australia’s premier exporters to be acknowledged.
Business SA is pleased to be increasing its range of services being offered to the business community, with the introduction of a new business coaching and mentoring program.
It continues to be a very competitive and challenging business environment out there and this program will provide access to the necessary experience and expertise to support business growth and development. More information about the program is outlined in this issue of xpress.
After a tough year for the business community, recent economic data has reflected some stability in the local economy.
South Australia’s most recent retail trade increased in line with the national average, while the local unemployment rate remained steady and we are now sitting alongside the national average.
There will be more challenges on the horizon for businesses in 2012, but be assured that Business SA will continue to provide ongoing assistance through our increased range of products and services to the business community.
Business SA’s popular networking series finished off the year in style with the final event hosted by the National Wine Centre. A full wrap-up of the event is available in this issue of xpress.
Also in this issue, we outline some of the assistance being offered by Business SA and catch up with a couple of Business SA members.
Best wishes for the festive season.
Until next edition, Peter Vaughan
