Rates decision to hurt local economy
Business SA responded to this week’s decision by the Reserve Bank Board to maintain official interest rates at 4.25 per cent.
Business SA Chief Executive Officer, Peter Vaughan, said that further action on interest rates is required by the Reserve Bank.
“We believe there was a strong case to cut interest rates and this decision by the Reserve Bank will maintain the pressure on businesses and consumers throughout the local economy,” Mr Vaughan said.
“The two interest rate cuts before Christmas provided some relief, however it has been evident that further action is required to assist the many industry sectors that remain under strain.
“Recent economic data, including inflation, building approvals and subdued retail trade, have indicated the need for a reduction in interest rates.”
Hutt St Centre’s “Share Your Pay This Leap Day” for the homeless
Share Your Pay This Leap Day is a one in four year opportunity to share one hour, one day or part of your extra day's salary on Wednesday 29th of February 2012 to support Hutt Street Centre so they can continue to rebuild the lives of those who are homeless in Adelaide.
The Hutt Street Centre’s CEO Ian Cox says the leap day initiative is an easy way for people to get involved at any level.
“Even a small contribution can assist us in providing the most basic of human needs for people who are homeless,” Ian says.
“Over the last few months, we’ve seen a lot more families who are experiencing homelessness. Through the support of the South Australian community, we’re aiming to provide emergency assistance to over 250 families.”

Aurecon opens office at Roxby Downs
Global engineering, management and specialist technical services group Aurecon is pleased to announce that in early 2012, it will establish a permanent office at Roxby Downs, South Australia.

Applications lodged up to 4 December 2011 will continue to be processed by the Melbourne 457 Centre of Excellence.

Transitional provisions in the Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 are due to commence from 1 February 2012.
